Race for making fuel efficient small cars – Hyundai EON, Maruti Alto

With increase in petrol prices, car buyers look for fuel efficient cars. Now automotive companies are adopting new technologies along with reducing weight of cars and improvement in powertrain to make fuel afficient cars.

Today, Hyundai has launched new small car Eon. It has mileage of 21.1 Kmpl and same power as Maruti Alto (814 CC). Maruti Alto has a fuel efficiency of 20.2 kmpl. Tata Nano is powered by a 600 cc engine, lightweight with mileage of 23.7 kmpl.

Eon takes over from the Alto K10 as the most fuel-economical entry-level car in the country besides the Nano. Major reason for Maruti Alto for becoming largest selling car is its frugal drinking habit.

Maruti is the only car manufacturer which has a large network of 2992 Maruti Authorized Service Station in 1406 cities across India. This is one of major reason car buyer prefer Maruti cars. Last year when Tata Nano improved their sales by changing focus to small cities by improving convenient car service options. After sales service impacts the sales of the vehicle.

To increase after sales service, Hyundai is also opening more Hyundai Authorized Service Stations. Earlier Hyundai dealers were the only option for car servicing.

Multibrand workshops are new trend in the aftermarket industry and there are 19000 workshops in the country. Every corporate look for these multibrand and independent car workshops to make them authorized service station. With increase in cars, multibrand business is becoming more profitable than doing servicing for one make, so workshop owner prefer multibrand servicing. Mobil1 and Bosch Car Service are making authorized service centers by providing them their products and support services.
