Let car showrooms reopen urgently, industry body urges UK government
The automotive industry on Friday said it would urgently reopen five thousand new car showrooms in the UK.
British car factories and dealerships have closed since mid-March, with sales down 40% so far this year, while some plants have resumed production, but much slower than usual.
“Car showrooms are as spacious as garden centers, and they are easy to socialize, making them one of the UK’s safest retail outlets,” said Mike Haves of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
“Allowing dealers to return to business helps boost consumer confidence and unlock the resilience of the wider industry.”
From June 1, the government has predicted that certain segments of the economy will be unlocked, including the gradual reopening of unnecessary retail businesses.
