Don’t ignore the dash lights warning sign
Your dash lights are your first warning sign that something could be wrong with your car engine or other components on your car. While some lights may indicate a minor problem, others, such as the low oil light or low brake fluid light need to be treated as a priority.
The first thing to do when you see a dash light flash or pop up is to try not to alarm. Your car is not likely to be on fire or about to break down in the next 5 minutes. Dash lights usually give you a little time to rectify the problem. The color of the dash light can give you an ‘at a glance’ idea of how serious the problem really is.
• Red usually signifies a potentially serious issue.
• Yellow or orange lights usually mean that something will need attention soon.
• Green or blue lights are usually just for information.
Dash Warning Lights – The Really Serious Ones
Dash lights have a mean pattern of popping on when you least expect – usually when you are on that long road trip and miles away from the nearest car repair service center.
Here are some of the more serious problems that will need immediate attention:
• Brake warning indicators
• Engine coolant temperature indicators
• Engine oil level
• Engine oil pressure
• Charging system
Of course, the warning lights you have on your dash will depend on your make and model of vehicle. It is best to check your manual if you are not sure.
